it was never said anywhere that the uchiha brother need to be alive before his sibling gets to pluck out his eyes. if itachi merely needed sasuke's eyes, he should have killed him first. that would have been easy with amaterasu.but he did not go for the kill.so he can have the EMS. and then get the higher level eye technique through the eye transplant. SO ITACHI IS PURPOSELY not KILLING SASUKE. the question is WHY?

could it be that the host/owner of the Sharingan MUST still be alive during the transplant operation? that is, if the owner is dead then the eye is dead also,and thus, would lose its power and be useless to the "new" owner. however, we don't find this fact or requirement anywhere in the manga (at least not yet). so we are more inclined to the plausible scenario that itachi was not really intent on taking sasuke's eyes and killing him.

hmmm.. after reading some of the comments, i recall that after deidaras death, tobi was sitting at the valleys end and talking to himself if sasuke was gonna be a crow or a snake. Why was he concerned about sasuke? Maybe tobi/madara sees the most potential of sasuke than itachi and with that assumption, tobi wanted to test sasukes abilities by using itachi. In which sasuke is proven better because he wasnt even using MS to make itachi to come out with its bloodline limit.

I'm not sure what Madara meant by that, but I think he was referring to their fight. His statement can mean whether he'll win, or loose. He was referring him to a hawk as victory, or snake which is hawks prey, so defeat. I might be wrong, but I think thats what he meant. Melo, welcome back! Nowa about the ms theory, I think the hosts eyes can only be taken out after he/she crosses certain age, so that might explain why Itachi didn't kill Sasuke 3 years back.

No, Ali, your hawk analogy is wrong. Hawk is his true self. His righteous self, who wants revenge for the right reasons, and relied on his own power. The snake is his orochimaru self. The curse seal, and the oro that was just ripped out of him. The marker of this struggle was when one of his wings was ripped off, and it became snakes. It was half and half at that point. At the end of this fight, with oro being out of him and Itachi dead, it will most likely be his proud, self-righteous hawk self who is the victor

wild theory time (again): why is madara so interested with sasuke (and itachi,but he got itachi already)? it is a fact already established that of all the uchihas, these siblings are the most unique and special, that is, they are the only ones who can follow in his footsteps, and be as powerful as he is. but he plans to take the eyes of the victor among the brothers. it is possible that he intends to collect these Sharingan eyes for himself, so the true power of the Sharingan be his own. If killing the bestfriend gains a Sharingan user an MS, and killing a brother, an EMS. then killing the whole family and clan, makes the EMS user something else also, we don't know, but probably more powerful. all the killing of bonds expands the user's capacity (so "container") to accommodate more of the EVIL powers of the Sharingan.

part 2: what if the unintelligible words of itachi before he passed out were actually understandable to sasuke. what do you think itachi said to sasuke? rodney above has a good suggestion, maybe he said (again), "maybe later." or maybe, "it was not me who killed or family and the whole clan." or "this is the secret mission i was telling you about, i am Root's DEEP PENETRATION agent to get rid of GL MadaraFuckah being the ultimately persistent threat to Konoha."

so Sai's mission to kill Sasuke makes more sense now. MadaraF (and Oro) needs Sasuke in order to further their evil plans of gaining super evil powers (that includes, of course, immortality) and also to destroy konoha. so as the adage says, "prevention is better than the cure." Root sees when we succeed at getting rid of Sasuke, we also succeed at destroying the plans of the two most dangerous enemies of Konoha.

that means also, that Sai's other mission is to kill Naruto when it becomes unavoidable already that the kyuubi should fall into the hands of madara (i'm assuming here that root is aware that madara may still live and continue pose a threat to konoha after he summoned the 9-tails to destroy the village. so this is a stretch.) Sai's inclusion into team 7 makes that very convenient...and is a tactical advantage.

Sasuke was just suppressing Oro who is weak inside of him; or did he get the idea when he went inside the psyche(or soul) of naruto and saw how the kyuubi is being suppressed but at the same time being utilized by naruto? in that scene, sasuke was seen to have suppressed the kyuubi's chakra inside naruto after their conversation about the sharingan and madara.

(a summary) There is still a big question as how one gets an MS. how did kakashi get his MS without killing his bestfriend, and why only after 16yrs that he got it? so (1) it is possible that a sharingan user can get an MS without killing his bestfriend; (2) one who kills his own brother and plucks his eyes out thus have four Sharingan eyes. in Madara's case, he has an EMS for killing his brother, but the eyes of his brother transformed into an entirely different eye technique, so says, itachi, because of the transplant. in Sasuke's case, if he has not discovered Kakashi's secret, he will have Itachi's eyes that have MS but an eye that most probably would evolve,too, by virtue of the transplant. If Madara can acquire still the four eyes of Itachi and Sasuke, then he would have all the powerful Sharingan eyes and the most unique and the highest level of Sharingan that has never been seen in all of Uchiha history; and he would have, thus, achieved the true power of the Sharingan. And with this, he not only controls the Kyuubi but probably all of the bijuus... and the whole world. I like em. i had always been of the opinion that itachi had other motives for forcing his brother to go the hard route to strength, unfortunately for sasuke he ended up with naruto as his competition ( a never say die kinda guy) if itachi really wanted to go againt jiraya to take naruto, he would have avoided kakashi and the others in order to take on Jiraya.

sides the images he infused in to sasuke on the day the clan was wiped out seemed from a third persons view, there was even no evidence of blood on him to show he'd partook of the mass murder. with madara's ability to avoid almost all jutsu (i say almost, cos he hasnt met his match since the first hokage yet, at least to our knowledge) he could have practically done it alone.

i just noticed something, i read chapter 380 again, where kisame and sasukes team meat. kisame says: 'i am really not in the mood for an other fight' this means he fought someone and since he was the teammate of itachi that could mean, that itachi fought someone else jsut before he met with sasuke to get his eys and that might be why he "lost" to sasuke plz tell me if i am forgetting about a fight of kisame, but so far i only remember the one vs azuma, gai and kakashi in konoho and the one vs gai, lee, neejy and ten and both of them (especiall the first one) are way too far ago in the past to be meant here so what do u think?
