as i was saying itachi is not a fool to fight Sasuke head on. he has a Ph.D. in running and cunning. he would not get himself wounded or killed in any fight. if there is an exception, it would be this one against sasuke. so what made this fight an exceptional case? if we rule out his desperation to get an EMS, then it would be to give his brother a gift... the EMS. and a glimpse of what he would have to reckon with and contend against when GL MadaraF comes for him.

oh yeah, right bum. but there is also a big question as to how to get an MS. how did kakashi get his MS without killing his bestfriend, and why only after 16yrs that he got it? so (1) it is possible that a sharingan user can get an MS without killing his bestfriend; (2) one who kills his own brother and plucks his eyes out thus have four sharingan eyes. in madara's case, he has an EMS for killing his brother, but the eyes of his brother transformed into an entirely different eye technique, so says, itachi, because of the transplant. in sasuke's case, he will have itachi's eyes that have MS but an eye that most probably would evolve,too, by virtue of the transplant.

@66 hmmm that seems doubtful. since (1) oro needs an elaborate soul-transfer technique to possess another body. and if that snake is oro, then he is also in a very much weakened state,too. much weaker than he was when sasuke overpowered him. (2) that would have been much clearer if we can see the snake or the hole in the same panel as itachi. it seems the snake is only depicted only as escaping (and surviving this battle, to fight another day.) it is also possible that the white snake is not oro anymore but the essence of the mythical Snake's immortality. (different cultures have this in common, esp., orientals, the snake is a mythical symbol for the power over life and death, of fertility and sex, of the endless human appetites and desires, of immortality). remember the shed skin of a white snake that Oro initially "discovered" while in the tomb of his parents as he was talking with his sensei sarutobi (the 3rd)? he must have found the live white snake later in his life, made a pact with it, and assumed its power.

@73 yeah i remember the super dangerous mission itachi was given in ANBU. if that was not merely an alibi, then it explains itachi's change of mood (troublesd) after the supposed top secret mission was given. i.e., he would have to pose as the disciple of madara and take him down finally for konoha's sake. i doubt though if it was yondaime who gave him the ANBU mission, probably the 3rd.
